Oude Bloodhound
🥄0
Stir Oude Genever, Sweet Vermouth, Strawberry Shrub (See Note), Lemon Twist with ice. Strain into a rocks glass.
The Oude Bloodhound draws inspiration from an earlier recipe known as the Blood Hound, first documented by Tom Bullock in his 1917 book The Ideal Bartender. Bullock’s version featured Old Tom gin and fresh strawberries. In 1930, Harry Craddock offered his own twist on this drink in The Savoy Cocktail Book, incorporating dry gin, fresh strawberries, and both sweet and dry vermouth. My rendition of the Bloodhound includes barrel-aged genever and a white balsamic strawberry shrub.
