Instructions

  1. **Strawberry-infused rum:**
  2. Halve the strawberries and place them in a sealed glass jar. Frozen fruit works great if fresh berries aren't available.
  3. Pour in light rum.
  4. Let rest at room temperature for about 24 hours.
  5. Strain the fruit and refrigerate the infusion.
  6. **Vanilla sugar syrup:**
  7. Make a standard simple syrup by heating equal amounts of sugar and water on the stove until dissolved.
  8. Split a vanilla bean lengthwise, scrape the seeds into the syrup, and keep the pod.
  9. Allow to infuse for a couple of hours.
  10. Remove the vanilla pod and refrigerate the syrup.
  11. **Drink preparation:**
  12. Measure out the strawberry-infused rum, punch, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and vanilla sugar syrup according to how many drinks you need, then pour into a mixing bowl or pitcher.
  13. Gently stir in the milk until the mixture breaks and becomes granular with a porridge-like texture.
  14. Strain through coffee filters to achieve a completely clear liquid. The initial filtrate may look murky—you can switch containers midway through for perfect clarity, then pour the cloudy portion back through the filter. This takes several hours typically.
  15. Once fully filtered through the coffee filters, the drink is ready to serve. The mixture stores in a bottle in the refrigerator for at least a week, likely much longer.
  16. **Service:**
  17. Place a large ice cube in an Old Fashioned glass.
  18. Pour the finished drink over the ice.
  19. Top with a thin layer of softly whipped cream. It should be liquid enough to drip slightly but thick enough to float on top.
  20. Dust with dried strawberry powder.
