Jonathan Powers created the Riviera Sun in Montreal in 2012, after a friend gave Powers a bottle of Pistache, a pistachio liqueur made by the makers of Cointreau and later discontinued. The drink was a first attempt to show off the liqueur's distinctive flavor.
