Shawn C. of Fresno, California, created this drink in 2023 while experimenting with the cinnamon and clove notes of Alchermes, which seemed to suit Riga Black Balsam. Linie Aquavit proved too strong and peppery, so Ahus Akvavit took its place, with Comoz vermouth added to balance the sweetness and bring a hint of white wine. The name comes from the song "Black Hole Sun", which kept returning during the work, and "Latvian" marks the role of Latvian Riga Black Balsam.
