Created by Frederic Yarm in Somerville, MA, in 2022: Scotch, apple brandy and sweet vermouth in equal parts, stirred with Angostura bitters and served in a coupe with a maraschino cherry. Smooth and a little fruity, with whisky and apple side by side.

Frederic Yarm created Old Number One in Somerville, Massachusetts, in 2022 while writing an apple-themed cocktail piece for the Fall 2022 issue of Edible Boston and Edible Worcester. It builds on the Marconi Wireless, a drink resembling an apple Manhattan, using Scotch and Angostura in place of orange bitters. The name honors the Arlington Street house in Somerville belonging to Charles William Jr., where the earliest telephone ever installed was put in.
