Machine Gun Etiquette

Stir Scotch, Apple Brandy, Dry Sherry, Cynar with ice. Strain into a rocks glass.

Last fall, while basking in the crisp evening air, I pondered a cocktail blending Scotch and apple brandy. This led me to consider Cynar’s compatibility with both spirits, which reminded me of its pairing with apricot liqueur in drinks like the Enjoy the Silence and One One Thousand. The Remember the Alimony also popped into my mind, and the concept began to crystallize. A taste test revealed that a dash of Peychaud’s bitters would enhance the mix further. Inspired by The Damned’s song Machine Gun Etiquette and its smoky undertones—or perhaps as a cheeky nod to avoiding alimony—I named this creation accordingly.

  3. For added character, include an orange peel as a garnish, allowing some of the liqueur to remain inside the glass.
