The Ward Eight first appeared in print in Robert Vermeier's "Cocktails How to Mix Them" in 1922, though PDT mentions its existence in "The Cocktail Book - A Sideboard Manual for Gentlemen" from 1915. This cocktail was concocted to toast the triumph of Democrat Martin Lomasney during his campaign for the Legislature.
