Tin City Sazerac
🥄0
Stir Cognac, Rye Whiskey, Sweet Vermouth, Maraschino Liqueur with ice. Strain into a rocks glass.
Inspired by T. Cole Newton's Sazerac variations in his Cocktail Dive Bar book, I started thinking about blending other drinks into a Sazerac. Instead of using a Manhattan as a base like with the Green Point, I chose the Red Hook cocktail and combined it with a Cognac Sazerac, highlighting the compatibility of Maraschino and absinthe from the Improved Cocktail. Naming this creation the Tin City Sazerac, I paid homage to the shantytown in Brooklyn's Red Hook area during the Great Depression, where longshoremen and sailors found temporary shelter while waiting for better times.
