Southland
🥄Stir Rye Whiskey, Mezcal, BéNéDictine, Angostura Bitters with ice. Strain into a rocks glass.
In 2014, Greenbar Collective in Los Angeles aimed to create a cocktail that would embody the city's unique character, much like how the Manhattan represents New York. The Southland was born from this vision, blending rye whiskey, smoky mezcal, and Benedictine liqueur with chicory and vanilla bitters. The goal was to capture the essence of sunny beaches, smoggy skies, glitzy glamour, palm-lined streets, suburban sprawl, and cultural diversity in a single drink. Initially experimenting with various bitters, it wasn't until a friend introduced Michael Crane's chicory and vanilla bitters that the cocktail truly came alive, enhancing the complexity of the Benedictine.
