Rougarou Daiquiri
🥃Shake AñEjo Rum, Cynar, Lime Juice, Allspice Dram with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass.
At Tales of the Cocktail in 2017, I encountered a New Orleans native who shared tales of his childhood fears of the Rougarou, a mythical swamp creature akin to a werewolf that allegedly prowls through the bayous and snatches children. The term "Rougarou" is thought to derive from the French loup-garou, with its spelling and pronunciation evolving among Cajun communities. Inspired by these eerie stories, I created a Daiquiri variation at Loyal Nine, aiming to evoke the swamp’s mysterious atmosphere. Drawing inspiration from both the Navy Dock Daiquiri and the Frequent Flier, I opted for Barbancourt 8 Year Rhum instead of Smith & Cross Rum due to its subtle funkiness and ties to Haitian mysticism.
