Roffignac

Shake Cognac, Raspberry Shrub, Club Soda with ice. Strain into a highball glass.

The Roffignac likely originated in New Orleans sometime around the 1870s. Its name is linked to either the city's mayor from the 1820s or the Roffignac cognac brand, though other theories exist. Stanley Arthur’s influential book "Famous New Orleans Drinks and How to Mix 'Em," published in 1937, revived interest in this cocktail by specifying whiskey instead of cognac but acknowledging the original recipe used cognac. For years, a key ingredient called “Red Hembarig” remained a puzzle until Robert Moss solved the mystery in 2011, identifying it as raspberry shrub.
