A shaken rum drink built on demerara and añejo rum, with grapefruit and lime juice for tartness and cinnamon syrup, Velvet Falernum and grenadine for spiced sweetness. A dash of absinthe and Angostura bitters round it off in the coupe.

The Play Dead is a scaled-down Zombie, served up rather than over ice. It draws on Martin Cate's Undead Gentleman, a drink with more in common with a Jet Pilot that is too big for a standard cocktail glass. The Play Dead keeps the layered character of the original Zombie, grenadine included, while bringing the alcohol down to an ordinary cocktail strength.
