The Play Dead is a toned-down version of the classic Zombie cocktail, served up rather than over ice. Inspired by Martin Cate’s “Undead Gentleman,” which leans closer to a Jet Pilot in composition and exceeds the capacity of a standard cocktail glass, this drink brings back the complexity of the original Zombie with grenadine while reducing its alcohol content to a more conventional level for cocktails.
