Opera Comique
🥄0
Stir Aquavit, Sweet Vermouth, Cynar, Green Chartreuse with ice. Strain into a coupe.
Negroni Week sparked my creativity, leading me to experiment with a drink that diverged from the classic Negroni. Inspired by the Cynar-Chartreuse blend of the Drink of Laughter & Forgetting and the Tailspin’s structure, I initially thought about using gin but decided against it to avoid similarities with my Continuum cocktail from 2018. The Cynar reminded me of aquavit in the Trident, so I made that substitution instead. Naming this creation after Happy Jack Harrington's raucous concert saloon, the Opera Comique (also known as Murderer’s Corner), which I learned about from Herbert Asbury’s book The Barbary Coast.
