Midnight Son
0
Gin, Aperol and Amaro Nonino make a bittersweet, herbal base, rounded out by blueberry syrup and a few drops of salt solution. Shaken and served in a coupe; created by Dave Ferguson, Canada, in 2025.
Dave Ferguson from Canada came up with the Midnight Son in 2025 after reading about the Twist of Menton in the book Cocktail Codex. The drink is a variation on that cocktail, made with blueberry basil syrup.

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with one large ice cube and shake vigorously for 8 to 10 seconds. Double strain the mixture into a coupe glass. Skip garnishing but consider adding a small basil leaf on top for decoration.
To make the blueberry basil syrup, combine sugar and water in a pan. Muddle half a cup of blueberries into it, then simmer gently for 3 to 5 minutes without boiling. Turn off heat and stir in one-third cup of fresh basil leaves. Allow to cool before straining through a fine mesh sieve.
