Leeuwenhoek
🥄0
Stir Gin, Lillet Blanc, Amer Picon, Kummel with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass.
I created the Leeuwenhoek cocktail for Hendrick's Beantown Bartender Battle in 2008, my first-ever cocktail competition. The challenge was to use six ingredients maximum and feature one of Hendrick’s thirteen botanicals; I chose caraway seed through kümmel liqueur. Inspired by a Dutch scientist who invented the microscope, I thought after hours staring into one, a drink would be in order. Sadly, my entry didn’t make it to the finals, so I never had to recite my limerick on stage at Green Street for the judges. From this experience, I learned that cocktails with unpronounceable Dutch names might not fare well.
