Instructions

Make simple syrup beforehand if you don’t have any on hand; alternatively, use 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar mixed with the raspberries. Slice fresh raspberries into quarters and set one aside for garnishing later. Prepare crushed ice. Chop basil leaves and reserve one leaf to use as a garnish. Place sliced raspberries in a durable glass such as an old fashioned or rocks glass. If using a delicate glass, muddle the raspberries with a muddler or wooden spoon until they form a fine pulp before transferring them to your serving glass. Add chopped basil leaves and mix well. Combine simple syrup, freshly squeezed lime juice, and gin in the glass and stir thoroughly. Fold in half of the crushed ice, then top off with the remaining crushed ice. Garnish with the reserved raspberry and optional basil leaf. Consider adding a stripped straw for decoration.
