Cognac and Jamaican rum stirred with sweet vermouth, apricot brandy and Swedish punsch, finished with Angostura and an orange peel. Rich and fruity; created by Frederic Yarm in Boston in 2021.

Frederic Yarm created Handcuffed Lightning in 2021 as a tribute to Muhammad Ali, building on Tony Iamunno's Butterfly Sting, which pairs Punt e Mes with Swedish punsch. Yarm also drew on the Swedish punsch and apricot liqueur combination in the Havana Cocktail and the apricot and Punt e Mes pairing in the Slope, and chose Jamaican rum and Cognac as the base. The name comes from a line in Ali's well-known rhyme: "handcuffed lightning, thrown thunder in jail."
