The original Fanciulli cannot be dated precisely, but Albert Stevens Crockett's 1931 book Old Waldorf Bar Days records it as older than Puccini's opera La Fanciulla del West, which premiered in 1910. This version follows Crockett's recipe: two parts bourbon or rye, one part Italian vermouth and one part Fernet Branca.
