Chief Bamboo Bamboo

Shake Dry Sherry, Dry Vermouth, Jamaican Rum, Orange Juice with ice. Strain into a tiki mug.

Inspired by Backbar’s Bamboo Cocktail menu in Somerville, MA, I wanted to add my own twist to the classic lineup including Improved Bamboo, Bamboo Crusta, and Bamboo Flip. My tropical imagination led me towards a Zombie variation but I feared it would overshadow the bamboo theme. Instead, I decided to riff on the Chief Lapu Lapu, perfect for using a twist-free orange. The playful name Chief Bamboo Bamboo emerged, and rather than Fino Sherry, I chose Death & Co.’s Amontillado-based recipe as its core.
