Rye whiskey with a smoky touch of mezcal, bitter Fernet Branca and sweet, herbal Bénédictine, stirred together with a dash of Angostura. Dark, bitter and smoky. Created by Frederic Yarm at Drink in Boston in 2022.

Frederic Yarm created the Campo Viejo in 2022 after a shift behind the bar at Drink in Boston, where making an Oldfield left the combination of rye, Fernet, Benedictine and Angostura on the mind. Mezcal and rye in a 3:1 ratio, plus chocolate bitters, were added, inspired by the Last American Hero, another drink made that same evening. The name continues the Oldfield theme, since campo viejo means "old field" in Spanish.
