Brainstorm

Stir Irish Whiskey, Dry Vermouth, BéNéDictine, Orange Peel with ice. Strain into a rocks glass.

The Brainstorm cocktail first appeared in Hugo Ensslin’s "Recipes for Mixed Drinks" in 1917 under the name "Brain Storm." It also showed up in the 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book as "Brainstorm," which is now the more widely used title. Early recipes called for two dashes each of Bénédictine and French vermouth, while contemporary versions typically use half an ounce of each ingredient due to the ambiguity of dash measurements from that era.
