Frederic Yarm of Boston created the American Gumption in 2023, inspired by Phil Ward's Tequila Gumption. Bonded bourbon and apple brandy take the place of the reposado tequila and mezcal, a Mr. Potato Head-style swap meant as a nod to Phil Ward.
