Agnostic Monk

0

A stirred, rye-led drink on the rocks, with a little Scotch and a generous measure of Bénédictine for herbal sweetness. Velvet Falernum adds spice and Lactart a sharp, tart edge. Created by David Porcaro.

The Agnostic Monk came about when an order for acid phosphate from a defunct chemical supplier arrived with some lactart thrown in for free. David Porcaro of the Oakland Art Novelty Company in Ferndale, Michigan, north of Detroit, then experimented with it and worked it into a new cocktail.

Instructions

Stir over good ice, then strain and serve neat. At Oakland, omit the scotch and use an atomizer to create a long, intense flame above the drink. This results in a unique sensory experience where guests enjoy a cold beverage with a hot glass on their first sip. We find this variation particularly enjoyable.
